I have noticed that many of the questions on the politics section are ones such as "Why do liberals hate democracy?" and "Why are all liberals so uptight and rigid?" and other insulting, untrue accusations. I am a liberal myself, and, to be fair, I have noticed that some of the insults have been going the other way, but I still believe they mainly come from the right. Either way, it is totally unverified and uncalled for, so why do people do it? Opinions?

It's a symptom of the partisan bickering and polarization that is sweeping the country.

Many people engage is such attacks because it takes far less effort to attack and insult an entire group than it does to actually debate underlying issues on their merits.

Also, by attacking the group, you can shift the focus away from the issues -- which is particularly useful if you are unable to come up with any logical arguments to support your position.

If you notice, people on both ends of the political spectrum do it, though it tends to go in cycles which end is more vocal any given week.

It's sad really that the best these people have to contribute is hate-filled rants that have no basis in fact or logic. That's why I usally pity them and ignore them.

Well, you just got an 'unsolicited invite', I'll just do an 'unbiased answer'...
(Some) people debate by doing the 'mud-slinging' thing to justify their position. When "their guy" is criticized, they use "the other guy's actions" to justify, excuse or simply turn a blind eye to "their guy's" actions. It also saves time because then they have a 'good' excuse to not look at articles if the cited reference is slanted towards the "other guy's" party. Everyone, of course must defend "their party/guy" to the hilt and debase the "other party/guy" in the process. I think they all must do this or risk losing "their guy/party" secret decoder ring. This is just a guess.

1) John Lennon tried to block democracy by spending $72 million to disrupt the Republican National Convention in 1972.

2) Liberal California Governor Gray Davis killed a law made by voters just because he didn't like it. That is about about as anti-American as it comes. The law would have taken away benefits from illegal aliens.
Millions of voters went to the polls to vote for the law. Davis refused to appeal the law to a non-biased higher court after the extreme liberal 9th "Circus" Court struck it down. Instead he sent the law to "arbitration" which is unheard of in a democracy.

your looking through rose colored glasses if you think that the most disrespect comes from the right. the left uses the art of intimidation very well and very often. insults and lies are the body of most all of the posts from the left. few posts from the left are truly thought provoking searches for knowledge. alas the right is also guilty, but not to the same extent.

Perhaps a bumper sticker I came across some years ago can explain it:
Above-average people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things. Below-average people talk about other people.

If you're on one side, you notice it more, I think. I feel the same way you do, and I'm conservative.

It's probably about 50/50.. Just feels like more. :)
