yes,
a hate crime is an act of aggressive or violence where someone is attacked for who they are and not for something they've done.
if someone is attack on the sole premise of which gender or genders they are attracted to, its a hate crime.

(crimes against groups of people incite more violence. hate crime statutes make examples out of those who would hurt innocent people just because they exist. it also allows people to feel safe and be who they are without worrying about others harming them)

it isn't hard to prove when a hate crime occurs. typically the attacked uses slurs, might leave behind note or even write on the person's body, there is typically taunting before the actual physical attack, and someone's the person admit they did it because the person was different from them.

Of course. Homosexuals receive a disgusting amount of hate and are very good at ignoring it. It's sad how all that many gays go through is ignored by the law.

Brandon Teena, hate crimes at one of their worst.

Of course, ever hear of Matthew Shepard? Getting beaten up or murdered for being gay qualifies as a hate crime any day of the week.

Wchwarrior you are correct they are covered by the same laws, however I don't think gays go around beating up or beating hetros to death because of their sexual orientation. I don't know where you live, but there are still places that packs of coward young hetros (maybe closet homos) still go around and beat up gay people, hence "hate crime"! There should be special punishment to deter these cowards.

i'm not likely specific what your component is. Is it which you do not think of specific communities or races or some thing like that would desire to be secure under the regulation? Or is it which you purely do not prefer those with determination existence varieties to be secure. i'm purely uncertain what you're disillusioned approximately. Hate crimes are infrequently in straightforward terms a count of loose speech and expression. I doubt there would be a prefer for a regulation like this if everyone did became communicate. confident the form components the suited to precise your self yet does not that advise vocally as adversarial to bodily? i don't think of our founding fathers had in innovations that the hating, offended violent few would sense that with this suited they'd kill their acquaintances because of the fact he did not believe their chosen existence variety. in case you do not in straightforward terms like the guy around the aisle on the action pictures because of the fact he's donning a set hat which you do unlike do you get to stroll over and kick him? Or do you purely get to declare some thing derogatory? As for the a million,406 people who died as a effect of hate crimes against gays, it does not appear like a lot except you recognize that a variety of must be your son or daughter or brother or mom. And in case you get to hate him adequate to kill him does not he have the suited then to kill you? while does it provide up? Hate crimes are actually so undesirable that it demands legislations. this is a telling element approximately our united states of america. we've in our society a gaggle of uneducated people who decide for that the only way they'd coach how they sense is with bullets or fists. What supplies those haters the suited to infringe on my civil rights because of the fact i don't believe them. isn't this what we are struggling with a conflict for? a set of individuals has desperate that we as individuals are not greater healthy to stay because of the fact we don't prepare their non secular ideals. How is that any distinctive than people who decide for that the guy on the different component of the aisle shouldn't get to positioned on the hat because of the fact they do unlike and subsequently could be allowed to overcome him to demise?

Well, I'm against the whole hate crime law thing.
Grey area legally.
So no.
We're all Americans. If an American commits a crime against another American for whatever reason......
It's still a crime.
Yes 'hate crimes' are sickening and I'm not defending them.
But there was a woman at the restaurant I worked at 3 years ago that hated me because I was working and had kids at home with my husband. I mean this woman HATED me. She never broke the law, but if she had I would have brought up charges on her crimes. I wouldn't/couldn't/don't want to have anybody arrested for talking trash to me or hating me.
What I mean is it leaves a wide open door for dumb asses out there that aren't really victims of hate crimes. 'She hates me cause I work'.
I just feel this isn't the solution.

Absolutely.

The point of hate crime legislation is to enhance the sentence when a crime is committed because of prejudice.

Whether you consider it an inherent trait, like race or gender, or a chosen trait, like religion, doesn't matter.

If a person attacks a victim because the victim is gay, and for no other reason, then that attack has the mental state to attack every gay person. That is a more culpable mental state than if the attack was individually motived. Just as intentional harm is a more culpable mental state than reckless or accidental harm.

Hate crimes are thought crimes and are thus totally unnecessary. There are already laws on the books that cover all these crimes. The government doesn't need to determine if there is some additional crime of not thinking in the correct way.
