I went to open the hood on my ford ranger and it will not open. The lever comes all the way out like it should but the cable will not pull... I think it has streched... there is quite a bit of slack in it. How do I repair this????

Don't pay any attention to that looser he is just upset cause he don't own a good truck maybe he has a scooter, Hood release take a look between the grill and you will see lock , Use a coat hanger or needle nose pliers and try to pull the lever back towards the drivers side It should open , Now when you get it open take the coat hanger make a loop in one end and tie some strong string to if and put the other end in to the hood release so you can open it until you can get it repaired , Its not hard to replace, hope this helps and don't listen to that looser I gave him a thrums down , you need help not a stupid comment,

The plastic covering on the cable has failed at the latch now you will have to unbolt the hood latch reaching up from behind the bumper.

use a pair of pliers to pull on the cable itself where it attaches to the handle.
