Cause if Harry would have actually tried to touch it I think that that part of his body would have died. Which means, if he was to try to follow Sirius into the "veil" then he too would have died and there wouldn't be a Harry Potter Book 6 or 7 and that would be the end.

Because it would have literally meant Harry's death. All who are behind the veil are dead. And though Lupin is not Harry's godfather or his father, he still cares a bit for him. After all, he was friends with James and Lily. Besides his memories of them, all that's left of that friendship is their son. Sure, Pettigrew is still alive, but he's a traitor who cost James and Lily their lives. Neither Lupin nor Sirius could forgive him that.

Because it would have revieled everything that they were protecting Harry from, the truth about who Harry will be, or to possibly say not be.......
