Hi Eris,
You yourself have put the right answer: 'Linguistically speaking there's no right or wrong accent'
To tell you the truth, sometimes the 'accent' adds a lot to speaker's being attractive. If the one who makes fun of another's accent speaks the other language, they will sound the same.
BUT, to be correct, if we are teaching someone, we have to try to help the learners, as much as possible, with the right accent; and we have to be strict with grammatical rules.

No. Why would you make fun of someone because of the way the speak. They probably think you talk funny because to them you have an accent. Not to mention there is no right or wrong accent so it would be wrong to "correct" them.

Of course not... that would be rude.
Occasionally, if I can't understand them.... I ask them to repeat something they've said.... but never corrected them.
I love to ask people where they are from.... I love to hear the different accents....
My mother-in-law is very sensitive about her accent though... she would be embarrassed if someone said, "nice accent... where are you from???" So I should probably reconsider how asking people that question might feel....
Usually we end up in a wonderful conversation about their country of origin.... but I guess I do run the risk of hurting someone's feelings.
Like I said, I would never attempt to correct something that isn't broken.....

I think it depends on you as a person (morals and respect for others) and also if you are the minority or the majority.
I'm currently living in Chile of South America so I'm the person with the different accent and I'm the minority. When friends speak English with me I don't correct their pronunciation, unless it is really bad, simply because of my respect for them.

I don't make fun of people's accents. If I'm speaking to a spanish person, yeah, I'll speak spanish to them, but, they're race doesen't mean that they're different, so I talk to them like anybody else.

No, I've never corrected anyone except my own children. That's insulting and it's a put down. I would not tolerate that for a minute. And when I get angry I sound very Southern so god help anyone that plays that game with me.

Depends who they are. If I'm talking to my friends who are from the south (I'm from PA), I won't correct their accents beacuse thats just how they talk. If I'm talking to a coworker who is from Romania, who has trouble with her English prononciation, I will correct her, only because it helps her pick up the language.

No, I don't. I only correct them if they ask me if they are saying something correctly or not. I've too often seen children of adults of other races correct their parents harshly for not speaking correctly and thought that they deserved to be slapped for doing so.
