Help! Urgent! What good anti-biotic medicines for burning throat are OTC and can be bought at Walgreen?

Hi all,

I just burned my throat. I ordered some food and I ate too fast while it's still very hot. It almost choked in my throat. But now I am okay. The only problem now is that my throat is burned. I feel painful in my throat. And I am sure it will develop into sore throat and then become inflammatory. I will have to see a doctor and take some anti-biotics. If I am strong enough, I probably will be able to go through it without seeing a doctor. The problem is that I am having a light cold these days. So I am actually a bit weak. I am not sure. Given my busy schedule, I don't want it to develop into inflammatory and force me to see the doctor. Could anybody recommend some good "anti-biotics" type medicines that are good for such burning throat and so that I can confine the sickness to a limited range so that my body can sustain it? Getting inflammation will be horrible. Thank you!

you can't buy anti biotics over the counter. You must have a doc order it. But you don't need them for a burnt throat. Get some of that numbing spray, it is over the counter, at walgreens, and works well. Just follow the directions, spray it into the back of your throat as many times as directed, and it will numb that burning pain. If it is really bad, see your doc.

Since when was burning your throat on hot food a sickness? God help you if you ever get truly ill!
Drink something cold. You will not need an antibiotic for eating hot food!
If you are that freaked, go to the ER, they'll give you ice and send you home!

I do not think any antibiotics are available OTC. If your doc is not available talk to a pharmacist about possible solutions. Salt water gargle? Chloraseptic? Vodka gargle?

All antibiotics are prescription. However, you are lucky in that, oral mucosa (the skin of the mouth) heals quickly. Gargle some salt-water to assist in healing.

There are no OTC oral antibiotics. There are, however, oral rinses that are antiseptic. But all you probably need to do is gargle with some warm salt water.

id say your best bet is to suck on ice cubes, and let the coldness soothe your throat.

cold liquids is guarenteed to reduce swelling, and also to relieve pain for burns.

sounds painful though :( hope you feel better.
