I'm thinking about water or gas leaks, faucet washers and toilet seals drying out etc.

I would turn the water off at the main, Unplug all unnecessary electrical items from the wall. Turn off the water heater, and remove all the food from the refrigerator and you can either turn it off or turn the temperature up some and fill it with several gallon jugs of water to help hold the temp even and stop cycling so often.

Install some timers with battery back up to give a lived-in look. Close curtains and blinds to give some privacy, and to keep people from seeing an empty house. Stop the mail and paper, if applicable.

Inform neighbors that you will be away and have them keep an eye on the place. Also give them a way to get in touch with you if necessary.

Have a good trip.

Hire someone to come by once a week.
Ask the water and gas company if you can turn them off at the meter.
Toilet seals won't dry out
Faucet washers won't dry out.
Turn off the hot water heater
Give your plants away
Hope you are going somewhere nice!

well a lot depends upon where you live and how long you will be gone...is their danger of water lines freezing during the period you are gone?...if so you need to leave the heat on a low setting to protect those. Seals , washers etc will be fine as long as nothing freezes up, hot water heater off. I would leave power on, to operate a few night lights in the home for security reasons, possibly put a lamp or two on timers, mainly just prevent anything from freezing if you live in a cold climate

Even if I am leaving for two weeks I shut off most things. I would hate to come home to a busted water line.

I turn off the water at the main valve. Turn off power to the water heater. Set the heat at 50F to prevent toilet tanks, traps ETC from freezing.

If you have a yard you should arrange for somebody to mow it regularly.

Your toilet and sink washers will be fine. Houses that are for sale sit for months all the time without problems.
