Director is the immediate boss on the set of a film. He coordinates with the director of photography and with the actors to get the best possible scenes in the movie. The Producer(s) is primarily the one who puts up the money and oversee's the financial aspect of the film. EX: Spielberg is probably both a director and a producer.

The Producer fits the big thing together, like get the screenplay, get the director, pay the bills. But the director has a more challenging job. He has to tell the actors where to go, what to say, how to say it, what emotions to portray, and also tell set designers what he wants the set to look like and is basically the man who puts it all together. It's like making something, the producer gets the materials, but the director puts it all together.
