Birth control can help relieve menstral cramps and heavy bleeding because it helps regulate your cycle and has progesterone and estrogen in it. The best thing is talk to her dr and together you can come up with the best method for her. It will take atleast a month if not 2 or 3 to see any relief. Hope this helps. Good luck

I know a lot of people that have benefitted from birth control as far as lightening and shortening the period, but I'm not positive about the menstrual pain. I would think that if the period were lighter, the pains would lessen. However, I don't know that birth control is the best option if it's just a pretty normal period with cramping. Doctors will prescribe it for abnormally bad periods normally. For typical cramping, I would recommend taking 2-3 Ibuprofen every 5 hours or so for a day or two before she expects to start her period into the first day or two of it. A doctor suggested this to me because he said it would relax the muscles and prevent cramping before it started. It worked really well and I've had far less problems since then. The only issue with this prescription is overdoing the Ibuprofen as it can harm your liver when taken excessively - so be cautious not to do it for too long.

I have heard it was. I have the IUD and my period is longer and I cramp nonstop. Another thing is I have taken the DEPO and gained weight and never had a period... I actually hated it though cuz I cramped all the time like I was still on it. I would talk to the doctor and see what they prescribe. Everyone I know is on the ring and LOVE IT!!! I would check in to a 1 time a month birth control like that...

She should talk to her doctor about it. However, I was put on the pill a few years ago to help keep my skin clear, and one of the perks I have found is that periods are MUCH lighter, there's still some cramping on the first day or so, but nothing too bad. She should definately talk to her doctor and see if the pill is something they feel she would benefit from. Hope this helps. :-)

Yes, the BC pill can ease the symptoms associated with menstral pain.. In fact there's a pill on the market that allows you to only have 4 pills a yr.. It's called seasonal... Have her see her doctor and see if she would be a good candidate for it... Good luck..

I'll tell you I have never liked the birth control pill. I have alot of cramps due to endometriosis. I found the only thing that really helped was the merena IUD. I tried all kinds of birth control and yes they are supposed to regulate you, but they didn't help me at all. Good luck.
