Actually, I do have to bills to pay.. Well, one bill: my cell phone bill, which is $85 a month. I make $400 a month tutoring and babysitting, and in two months I am going to be fourteen (the legal age to start work in FL) and am almost guarenteed a job at either a local carwash or at a local restaurant owned by my best friend's uncle.

no sorry, it is illegal to make a contract with a minor. So, the only way, is to have your mom or dad open an account in there name with you listed on the account. Some banks will allow you to have a checkbook from that account, most won't and no business will take your check because they would have to go after mom and dad if it bounces.

You can get a checking account (as a joint owner with one of your parents) but you cannot legally sign checks until you are 18. A check is a legal document, therefor your parent who is on the account with you must sign it for you. It is not a bad idea to get one though. It will teach you how to budget and how to write checks and it will most of all teach you responsibility.

I thought NO, you have to be 18, but a friend said some banks will allow you to be on an account joint with a parent.

So you still need to have a parent on with you. Otherwise, you have to wait until you are an Adult.

I beleive you have to be at least 18 before you can have a checking acct. Why would you need a checking acct. at the age of 13 anyway? Do you have money to deposit in there and bills to pay? Oh yeah. You have to have money in a checking acct. before you can write checks because if you do write checks with no money in acct. you go to jail.
