I read today about a women-only taxi service and was pretty sickened by some gits claiming that this is sexist. When there are an estimated 30,000 unlicensed taxi drivers in the UK, with an increasing amount of serious sexual assaults taking place in them, how can any sensible and decent person say that providing a safe alternative is NOT a good idea? How incredibly petty some men can be. This is serious, for Christ's sake, let's get REAL shall we???
The fact is that women are far more likely to be raped, and therefore there is a need for this service. That is basic common sense. Unless of course you think that this situation is acceptable, in which case you have big problems. Face reality and grow up.
I remember plans for a women-only night-time car park being vetoed in Bath, where I used to live. At this time, there were serial rapists in the city. Did many of the men of Bath care if this happened? No, they were more concerned with having a place to park than providing an opportunity for women to get home safely, despite the fact that it was the women getting their cars hijacked and experiencing one of the most horrendous things anyone can go through, after being abducted at night from car parks. At best, that is just petty. It's pretty sick.
It is simply disgusting that anyone considers some pathetic whining about sexism to take priority over reducing sexual assault.
If it was men who were more at threat from this, there'd be no question about it whatsoever. Fact.

Anyone who is petty enough to whine about this being 'sexist' is a total moron with an IQ of a single digit, and needs a very hard kick where it hurts, as far as I am concerned. This is a great (and long overdue) way of reducing tackle an enormous problem.
Al - I think the whole point is that this is specifically for women as, to put it bluntly, women are in far more danger of being sexually assaulted. The drivers are all women so I guess the same applies.

Totally agree that women should feel safe and the service provided for just women is acceptable...
Tonight there was a report on BBc about a similar service operating in Tehran as well. So it is a world wide problem and one being solved in the same manner.

How tragic that any man could be pathetic enough to argue against increased safety for women. My partner was raped and has never got over it. I fail to understand how someone can think that in a situation like this, personal safety is far more important than stupid claims about sexism.

Excellent plan. It seems nonsensical to argue about this being unfair. If it prevents women from being raped, it is worthwhile, and quite frankly any man who can't understand this basic premise is a total imbecile.

Fantastic idea, about bloody time too, and those who don't understand why it is important need a goood hard slap and a few lessons in reality and getting priorities straight.

OK ladies if you want to ban us from using a perfectly good taxi service where possibly no other is avaliable. You can keep out of our mens clubs, men only bars at golf clubs, hold a door open for me once in a while.
Before you jump down my neck i can fully appreciate the difficulties and problems females have with transport and where you would feel nervous in a car with a strange man.
But you cant have your cake and eat it. Either you want equlity or you dont. After all it cant be very PC to say men arnt allowed.

I totally agree with the sentiment of the service.
Women only drivers would make female passengers feel alot safer, which is a very good thing.
But why can't men use the taxi service?
