So now president Bush has the authority to fire at will? Is this going to be the same proof we saw with Iraq??

Michael, thanks for answering. Really it isn't about democrats vs republicans, because so many of both have supported this bill. It is so disheartening that the media won't cover this. The people do not want another war, we don't even want the one we are stuck in now.
Of course my hero Ron Paul was against it!!! but now I hope he wins the nomination because he will be the only man with the balls to stop this ****.

did i miss something??
The numbers you present appear to be those of a house vote - i thought Clinton and Obabma were senators - that vote would be at 100 wouldnt it?
Well,
not withstanding the littel slip in numbers, to answer your question Yes on both accounts - I also believe that bush had the authority to this some time back now just because of this bill.
Bush, in order to move forward on his agenda needs three thing to happen -
1. he needs a war before the end of the year to set up his "national emergency"
2. he needs to get the immigration bill passed - this i svital for the start of the super highway on the mexican border
3. he needs to get socialized medicine passed - this is vital for the start of the super highway on the canadian border
You could consider a fourth if you want - but it will happen once the NAU is formed anyway - thats the amero needs to come into being
this last one can actually wait for a year or two without hurting his agenda - yeah he is being a good little boy and is fullfilling his daddy's dream

Yeah, now after having this bill passed, it means that if Iran just make a little move, the US will be capable to show this bill and go forward with his intervention. I did expect this to happen, this next war is planned for the end of August, early September...
P.S: About the NAU, I did learn that your US army have requested a 25 km perimeter around the Montebello place, where they will get the meeting for the NAU in August... They are scared as hell now, that peoples know about it!! But still they give no chance for public demonstration against the idea. And also learn that since its mainly an economic agreements, the congress and YOU will not have anything to say against the Union!!

They are probably going to hit Iran before Bush leaves office, thats why they have ramped up the production of the F22 Raptor and from what I hear all of the targeting data has been loaded for Iran and they are ready to go. Of course the Raptor is very advanced and the Iranians would have big trouble with it, what you are seeing in this bill is them getting ready, they would have probably already done it if Iraq would have gone smoother. Its just more signs of the times we live in.

Have you read the actual amendment?
All it does is require a report to be prepared on whether Iran has engaged in activities in violation of international treaties.
Specifically, Senate Amendment 2073 to House Resolution 1585 reads "To require a report on support provided by the Government of Iran for attacks against coalition forces in Iraq."
A report. That's all.
When did gathering facts become a partisan issue?
EDIT: You don't like the facts, so you attack the person who presented the facts.... interesting.
To answer your question, we need a bill to gather information because any action undertake by Congress, or any action that requires the expenditure of federal funds, must be approved by Congress. Most people learn that in 7th Grade civics class.
Also, while nothing prevents gathering information without a Congressional mandate (i.e. intelligence agencies can operate within their discretionary budget to do so) this requires that specific question be answered.
Why did it pass 97-0? Because obviously lots of people are interested in the answer to that question, entirely independent of their party affiliation.
Also.. the 398-27 numbers you quote are a House vote. Obama, Clinton and Lieberman are Senators. The vote was 97-0 on the amendment.
The 398-27 numbers were for the general fiscal funding for military activity in 2008, and the issue still needs to go back to the House for a re-vote now that the Senate has amended the bill.
I'll refrain from the reciprocal ad hominem attack about your ability to understand the basic legal and political processes, or your ability to read simple numbers.

Because they are consummate politicians and like and "good" politicians they do what is popular at the moment and then pretend later that someone ELSE completely confused and misled them and therefore they cannot be blamed for the bad decisions they make. However, if they happen to make good choices they they deserve 100% of the credit, even if they don't truly understand what they were choosing.

Because their only convictions are how they can win over any audience they may be addressing at any particular time. They have no idea what they believe. They need to script their comments to whatever particular group they are addressing.
Clinton, Obama and Edwards have only one interest and that is to satisfy their own narcissistic goals.
