Do you think it would be wiser to paint a bedroom closet white, or the colour of the room's walls?

Basically meaning- will a lot more light be blocked out by having coloured paint on the closet walls, or will it really not matter that much between white or colours?

The colours I have in mind are a mauve shade and a bluish-purplish-grey shade (it's a bright colour though).

I's far more difficult to make color decisions with your clothes if there is already a color surrounding them. White or off white flat paint is better than a color. I've also found that light bulbs that give off a natural or clear light is better than the yellow light given off by soft whit bulbs.

Well I'm use to having white in my Closet. But also white makes a small room look a bit larger then if you color it any color that is a Darker shade then white. What the heck a closet is a small enough room that you should be able to try it out and see if it works with either color. What would it take about 2 quarts or less to paint it. 3 hours of casual labor.

If you paint it white it will accent that nicely, however it does not have to be white, it can be a matching color a few shades off what you have selected. I don't think it will make much difference concerning light etc, since it is a lighter colour you picked.

Personally I would go with a white or off white. It makes the closet brighter and easier to see in. If you keep the closet door closed who is going to see what color it is? And a neutral color like white will make the colors of your clothes look more like what they would be outside.

But that is just my opinion. Go with what ever color you want. After all this is a free country. Dare to be different.

I think colored walls will make the closet seem darker and possible make your cloths colors appear different. Unless your bedroom is brightly lit or the closet walls will always show, I would suggest using a gloss white. It will make the closet brighter buy reflecting light.

As a paint contractor, unless the owner's want the closets to be the same color, I paint them the same white as the ceilings. Probably for the same reasons that are already stated here.

Paint inside of closet white or off-white, for two reasons.
1] you won't have to repaint it when you change room colors
2] a light neutral will show the clothes in their 'true colors', so you can mix and match appropriately.
3] oops! three reasons! white will reflect more light, making things easier to find.

Its totally up to you,but you're thinking right. If the bedroom is a dark color, a lighter color in the closet will help you see. If your room is a light color, why buy more paint?

Ooh, no, definitely white. Closets that are the same color as the room are very unattractive.
