I was just reading about this in one of the baby books I bought, and they said you are not supposed to use the patch or gum during pregnancy. Nicotine can cause blood vessels and capillaries to contrict, including the vessels in the umbillical cord that carry all oxygen and nutrition to the baby. This can result in intrauterine growth restriction, which means the baby's growth is stunted. This can cause birth defects, premature labor, or miscarriage.

So I know it will be really hard, but maybe by the time you conceive you can wean yourself off of the patch. Good luck!

Anything that puts nicotine into your bloodstream effects your unborn, as you share the same blood. Quit BEFORE you get pregnant.
