I am 36 weeks and am being induced next Monday due to pre-eclampsia. They are having me come in on sunday to give me a pill, or something along them lines to ripen my cervix and dialate me more, then Monday morning starting the pitocian for induction. I am 1.5 Cm's dialated already, 50% effacted and baby is -1.5. I would really like to know if anyone else has been induced this early and still been able to deliver naturally? I really dont want to have to have a c section. I understand everyones pregnancy is different, but i would just like to know what some of you ladies think. THanks a lot.

I am also being induced on Monday for preeclampsia. However, by that time I will be 38 weeks. With my first child I was induced at 37 weeks also for preeclampsia. They started by putting me on pictocin, but I wasnt responding. I had only dilated to 2 and wasnt progressing even though they had me walking the corridor and had me on pictocin for about 6 hours. Then the dr broke my water. 10 hours later I had my son. However, when the dr broke my water, he said either I was going to have the baby that evening, or we would have to do a c-section. But between the walking, the pictocin, and breaking the water I was able to have him naturally. Hopefully, this helps you, and Good Luck.

I've never been induced but from what I've read and researched I know that if you have already started to dialate and efface on your own your chances of a successful induction are good. Find out from your doctor if you will be able to get up and walk around while being induced. if you can walk the halls of the hospital maternity ward then you will be giving gravity a chance to help the baby drop down and dialate you faster. And the pill you will be taking is not like a tylenol, it is placed in your vagina next to your cervix and it helps to soften it. most use a drug called cervadil.

Since you are already dilating I would think not. But I would ask if they could put you on a low-dose regimen of Pitocin. The reason that induction often leads to c-section is because the drugs used in induction can cause uterine hyperstimulation (longer, stronger, harder contractions).

Since the baby is breathing *between* contractions, if they are too long (etc) then the baby can't breathe and goes into distress. With a low-dose regimen, you can more closely monitor how your contractions are, and they can stop the drug before the contractions are too intolerable.
Induction often leads to epidurals (which can slow labor) and then leads to c-section, so if you can control your induction better, you can avoid the c-section.

I had the exact same thing. I wasn't able to deliver naturally because my daughters heartrate went down once I started the pitocin. I got an epidural right at 3 cm and it really slowed my labor. My only advice is not to rush into the epidural if you can and decide to have one. While it did help my pain alot, I wish I had waited for maybe one or two more centimeters. I don't wan to scare you, just make you aware.
Good luck and Congratulations!

the fact that you are already dialated and efacing is a good thing, it may be a long labor, but your chances are good. Don't let them break your water until atleast 6-7 cm, if they do it too early and you have a long labor they may push you to get a c-section. Once you get to 7 it goes faster. Good luck!!

I was induced with both of my previous pregnancies at 35 weeks. I had a normal delivery. I didn't need an c-section, you shouldn't either unless their are other problems.
