I am needing to know if it is safe for the baby to fly. My girlfriend and I want to start a family but she doesn't live in this country at this time. When I go over to see her this time we are wanting to get marrried and to start a family, but will the baby be ok for when she flies here to be with me and to raise our family? How many months can she be pregnant and for the baby/and her to be safe? I have heard that it isn't good for babies to fly until a certain age. At what age? How true is this?

it will be safe for her to fly pregnanat unitl the 7th month or so, she may need a dr note that indicated she is not at risk for premature delivery. If the baby is born before you fly home, wait unitl he's 6 weeks or so.

It's best to check with the airline and her doctor. For the last month or two it's best not to be too far from home, like more than an hour or so, because if she goes into labor then she won't be near her doctor. Airlines have different rules depending on the airline, some require a doctors note past a certain point. I flew at 24 wks and had no problems. If she does fly, it's important for her to drink plenty of fluids and move around regularly.

As for the baby, I've never flown with a baby but I have known several people who have flown with a one or two month old baby. Again, check with the pediatrician and the airline. Good luck!

I flew until I was 8 1/2 months. I just didn't tell the airline because they don't want women flying past 7 months out of fear that they could possibly go into labor, but it's perfectly safe to fly for as long as you can get away with.

My OB/GYN told me that I could fly until I was 36 weeks. And I did, through each pregnancy.

The only reason you can't fly up until the actual birth of your baby is that your doctor and the airlines don't want you to go into labor on the plane.

As for babies flying, I took each of my kids on cross-country flights when they were about 2 weeks old, and we've been flying ever since. My four-year-old has been on two international flights and probably 20 domestic flights. My two-year-old is giving her a run for her money.

So don't sweat it.

It will be fine.

I flew up til i was 6 months. My doc said it was ok until about 35 weeks if the pregnancy is going well! And to make sure there is a hospital nearby that we could go to if i went into labor! It should be fine! I didnt have any problems and he was born very healthy! He even flew when he was 7 weeks and did a great job! He just slept the whole time! Congrats and good luck!

It is up to the doctor as to the safety of flying during pregnancy. Most Doctors are ok with it for the first 2 trimesters. It has no effects on the baby that I know of.

A pregnant woman can fly during the first or second trimester. If she flies during the third trimester, she will need a note from her doctor.

It's safe for babies to fly at any age.
