Walking will increase the chances for dilating. You can also have some sex before you actually have your baby. You won't have sex for while when the baby is born. So might as will enjoy it now. But for real you can try some walking.

If your baby is over 8 pounds now then i would let them induce you if need be. It's not the most fun experience and induced contractions do hurt more than natural ones. The longe ryou wait the bigger your baby will get and mor elikely you will have to have a c-section. I was two weeks latw with my son, they had insuced me twice and sent me to a bigger hospital to be induced with stronger stuff. Before i left the first place the did an ultrasound and found out my son was over 10 pounds. Once i arrived at the bigger place they informed me of this and the risks involved for my son if they induced me again. they gave me the option to have a c-section and i chose to do that instead of making my son suffer.
Don't be afraid of being induced.

Most are old wives tales. I've heard that walking is the best. Go for nice long walks. I've also heard bouncing on one of those large exercise balls. Not sure of the theory behind it, but I've seen it on those TLC baby shows also.
I have read that sex helps. Two reason - the sperm does something to the cervix to get it ready and the orgasm causes the uterus to contract and possiblity nudge baby along.
Don't do caster oil (sp) or laxatives. They could make you very crampy and don't help the baby along (and the laxatives could get to the baby's system - not a good thing).
Best of luck to you!

I delivered at 44 weeks. Didn't want to induce either, waited for as long as my doctor would let me. Ended up having to induce anyway. I think it just means you have created a perfectly cozy place for your baby and he/she doesn't want to leave. As long as the baby is being monitored more often, I would say wait for as long as you can. Good Luck!
PS
I tried EVERYTHING to induce. Sex, hot foods, castor oil, walking, swimming, jumping, nipple stimulation, more walking. Nothing worked for me, although nipple stimulation is the only thing proven to actually help slightly, if you do it ALL the time!
...and also, I just read someone say being induced is really painful?? Not at all... it just gets your contractions going the way your body would naturally.

Today at my prenatal visit, my midwife and i discussed also and she said that making mad passionate love in the latent days or if i go over my due date can stimulate the beginning of contractions that can naturally induce labor. I have also heard that cilantro can help. I do not personally know if there is any truth to eating cilantro, but one of my girlfriends told me that she did and the same day she went into labor like 2 hours later.

i was just in your situation (had my baby girl on June 20th -- 10 days 'late'). try to walk as much as possible...but the overall tried and true way that REALLY did work was sex. my husband and i had sex 1 day before i went into true labor...and literally a few hours afterwards i was having contractions (the real ones). you don't have to have an orgasm either (although it surely can't hurt!)...the male sperm helps to induce by softening the cervix to therefore get the whole process rolling.
good luck and congrats!

You can start with Walking a lot, rub your nipples, sit on a birthing ball, have sex and make sure you have an orgasm you also rub your ankles I will give you a web sit about that one. I have also heard you can eat eggplant?!

Let nature take it course. If you try castor oil you could cause serious problems for you and your baby. Castor oil is a laxitive for you and your baby. It could make him have a bm and if he injests it that would be very harmful. Your handsome little man will come when he is ready. No need to hurry Take time to enjoy the last few moments of the time when your baby is just yours.

Well, what worked for me was walking A LOT, skipping through the halls at my house (and what a sight that was...lol) and putting cumin on everything I ate. I've heard of the castor oil thing but that just sounded too gross for words! I know lots of people who say sex works too. Hey, try it all! I mean, as long as it is safe, what do you have to lose :-)....Good luck!!!!
