a nickname...she was born Claudia Alta Taylor and became Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson when she married President Lyndon B. Johnson. The President was very fond of his initials and gave people close to him the same initials, including his wife who he dubbed Lady Bird (carrying on a childhood nickname). They even named their children Lynda Bird and Luci Baines to carry on the tradition. It is such a shame that she passed away, she was a lovely lady.

She was christened Claudia Alta Taylor as a child she acquired the nickname Ladybird. The name turned out to be quite apropos as she was a great conservationist and very in involved with preserving natural wildflower spaces and beautifying the world around her. She married president Lyndon Baines Johnson in 1934. He became the 37th president in 1963 following the assassination of JFK. They had two daughter Lynda Bird and Luci Baines. She was a tireless supporter of her husband and took a special interest in his war on poverty program especially the Headstart project. She also created the First Lady's Committee for a more Beautiful Capital. A classy first lady who helped improve our country. She will be truly missed.

According to Wikipedia, her first name is Claudia. The nickname came from when she was a toddler (a caretaker told her that she looked pretty as a "lady bird").
By the way, a lady bird is a type of ladybug.

I heard on t.v. the other day that she got that name "ladybird" from a person that worked for her a long time ago. The woman said to Mrs. Johnson one day that she reminded her of a bird. She was the first lady of the white house and so the woman started calling her ladybird. It stuck. That's what I heard. I think there are people that should do more research on this subject.

Lady Bird is the name of her favorite bird in Texas as a child, and she was given that name at around 6 years old. Her real name was Claudie Taylor, and yes, she was the first lady to President Taylor.

You "think" she was a first lady. Short attention span or what. I guess you could not make it through the newscast.
I agree with the old vet. How many real drop cases there are on here is amazing.
Wolf, for future reference. It is better to remain silent and be thought of as stupid, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Claudia Alta Taylor Johnson is her real name. The nickname 'ladybird' came from her nanny when she was a baby, who thought she was as "pretty as a ladybird".
