why do people wear shirts with his picture on it?

i hate to burst the hyper-idealized bubbles of my fellow budding revolutionaries, but people wear those shirts because that photograph (of Che) is iconic, not so much because of his politics. the truth is, the average fairly educated individual can't tell you a whole lot about Che's political views because they were, at times contradictory and (by his own admission) confusing.

the photograph is an icon that's come to represent the revolutionary ideal, not Che himself. just like the images from Tiananmen square. the image is so emblematic that it outgrows its literal subjects.

Because they're somehow deluded that wearing a 20 dollar t-shirt from Hot Topic is somehow "stickin' it to the man". Yeah you're really rebelious Leroy, Rockin' a Che Guevara t-shirt that you bought at Hot Topic along with 50 dollar jeans, 200 dollar sneakers, and playing Rage Against The Machine on your Ipod all while riding in a Toyota your mom and dad bought you plastered with bumper stickers you bought at Spencers. Yep a real meme to the extreme. Fight the power!

Maybe because he's an Icon. Wearing one, is a statement of ones political belief; that is inclined with what Ernesto Guevarra dela Serna believes in. So, people who wears his shirt, but doesn't know him or what he stands for are stupid.

He's just another Communist guerrilla.
