we should try to educate people that they actually existed, especially to the African-American community. people dont understand that the South (during the time of the civil war) was less racist than the north and the north used the excuse on slavery to boos the morale of their soldiers. both sides were racist, and i dont understand why the south takes all the blame for the racism.

Don't forget the Native Americans that fought for the Confederacy as well. I think they suspected that after the Civil War, the Union might just violate the treaties they had and steal their land again, and put them all on reservations.

How could they have possibly thought that.

Yes, many in the North were very racist back then. But the idea that the North was more racist than the South is pretty stupid. And why does it matter? What is your point? Do you think the South should have won? Or that slavery wasn't worth abolishing? What's the point?

Because the south practiced lynching and were quite violent. They had the unspoken social rules. Emmit Till, a 14 year old boy, whistles at a white women and is tortured and killed for it. The white men, all at least 25, who were arrested for the crime were found not guilty, later admitted to doing it. This was a normal occurance. In the north something like this was rare. As for black confederates, yeah there was a group of troop at the end of the war. They had been promised their freedom. They never saw combat. Black confederates were as rare as an alchol and drug free hollywood party.

By Black Confederates, are you claiming, rifle carrying Black soldiers serving in Confederate line units? (Yes, I know a few black militia units mustered for the Confederacy, especially in Louisiana, especially in the early part of the war.)

Or

The Black servants and teamsters that occasionally show up on Confederate muster roll?

yeah because it would mean that they fight for the confederates and maybe be free or stay on the plantation as slaves...

wasn't much of a choice...

So the north was more racist than the south?

I don't know where you are learning history - but it's the wrong place.

Can you say SLAVERY? Can you say LYNCHINGS? Can you say "white drinking fountain"-"colored drinking fountain"?

Can you say "not allowed to vote"?? Can you say "not allowed to learn to read or write"?
