Personally, I think Tim Duncan is better, but only by a hair. Tim Duncan has a bit more experience than Amare and still has a lot of power. But then again, since Amare's younger than Duncan, he's probably a bit more aggressive than Dunca. But I'd still have to say that Duncan is better, right now. Stoudemire might very well be as good as Duncan when he is Duncan's age. He might possible be a future hall-of-famer. Anyway, what do yall think? Duncan or Stoudemire?

Slamboy, what you said about Tim Duncan's teammates is incorrect.. Tim Duncan has many tall teammates, like Fabricio Oberto, Francisco Elson, Robert Horry, etc. And al lthese guys are very good at their positions.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Tim Duncan.
I am a Suns fan, they are my team, and even as infuriated as I am at the Spurs for the Western Semis this year, there is no question that Tim Duncan is the better player right now, even against a younger and more athletic Stoudemire. He is even arguably the best power forward of all-time that single-handedly changed the Spurs franchise to a dynasty - including winning a title this year.
On play alone, Stoudemire is a much more explosive player that plays with indeniable raw strength. His dunks are arguably the most powerful in the league and make for fantastic highlight reels. However, Duncan in comparison to Stoudemire is statistically and fundamentally a better player AS OF RIGHT NOW (in the 06-07 season), even when Stoudemire is so much younger. He may not be as explosive, but he keeps on par with Stoudemire in ppg, grabs more boards, dishes more dimes, and creates more blocks. He also has a deadly bank shot and has improved his mid-range jumper dramatically. Stoudemire, on the other hand, cannot score unless he is in the paint. Also, Duncan holds better stats even when he constantly defers to his teammates. He is willing to sacrifice his own statistics for his teammates and the win. Stoudemire tends to be a ball hog and even with Nash dishing him the ball and creating plays for him, his stats are still lower than Duncan's. In short, Duncan has better stats and sounder play even when he defers to his teammates, whereas Stoudemire cannot best him even with the help of the best point gaurd in the league.
Aside from his incredible play, Duncan's value comes most from (as cliche as it sounds) his intangibles. He is the sole reason why the Spurs now are considered a dynasty team, having won their 4th championship in 8 years. Since Duncan has been in the league, the Spurs have always been a threat, and after the Lakers dynasty, the Spurs have been considered "the team to beat." He is the definition of a "team player" and is willing to sacrifice himself for his team to win. Duncan is without a doubt the leader of his team, and as leader, he has turned a 28th pick and a 2nd round pick into perennial All-Stars. Stoudemire cannot come close to claiming anything Duncan can, and will never be able to. He isn't even the reason why the Suns are a championship contender, that lies with Steve Nash. Stoudemire is not a leader and does not make players around him better. In fact, he is rumored to be constantly at odds with his teammates and tends to disrupt his team's chemistry. He and Marion seem to have tension as Marion is constantly overlooked, and he seems to be jealous of Nash's success. Duncan has close friendships with his teammates, whereas Stoudemire seems to want the glory for himself.
Now, this is not to say that Stoudemire isn't a tremendous player. As a Suns fan, Stoudemire plays a vital role in my team's success. He is a great player and has improved dramatically with Nash's help. He makes my team an incredible threat and is a prize to any team that has him. However, in comparing Stoudemire to Duncan, well...there is no comparison - not NOW and not ever.
As of right now, Duncan, a champion, is a better player, a better teammate, a better leader, and - in almost every fashion - better than Stoudemire. Statistics, play, and chemistry prove it.

Duncan by far. Sure Amare has more athletic skills, but Duncan knows how to be a leader. Amare has no clue in that department. It takes huge balls to have the ball down the stretch of a meaningful game and make something happen. Amare has never done that. Duncan does it regularly. It's called carrying a team. Plus, Duncan is so much smarter of a player particulary on defense. Amare's skills are way underused on the defensive side. Basketball is more about mastery of the on court game than it is about athletic skills. Duncan wins that agument easily.

Tim Duncan without a doubt. Yes Amare is a good player yes very talented but relies too much on strength and speed. while Duncan is by chance the most Fundamental big man in the entire game and relies on knowledge.. and unlike Amare Tim makes his entire team better.
And Tim has one more thing that makes him better than amare a hand with 4 championship rings on it.
He also has 3 finals MVPs and 2 reg. season MVPs to top it off.
And not to mention Tim was voted as one of the top defenders in the league by both media and coaches. ( for the past few years )

Amare's a physical freak of nature. At 6'10, 245, he's very quick and has tremendous leaping ability despite his size. He's a strong rebounder and shot-blocker and definitely could score. Tim Duncan is not that athletically gifted but he's the most fundamentally sound player the league has ever seen. He has all of Amare's talents in his arsenal and more importantly, he does them on a consistent basis. Most of all, he's a proven winner with 4 championships. Duncan's definitely much better at this point.

Amare is a whiner not a winner. And I'm a Suns fan. Seriously. I don't know why other Suns fan love him so much. Suns did pretty well without him and didn't do THAT MUCH better with him back either! Shawn Marion and Steve Nash are my guys. What they bring is irreplaceable. Look at the Sun's record with Nash. Shawn didn't miss many games and the Suns are winning with him. Look at Suns record without Amare; it like the same with Amare! So Amare is totally replaceable.
And Tim Duncan is the absolute leader in the Spurs. So of course, Tim is better.
You shouldn't be comparing replaceable players with irreplaceable ones.

personally, i think tim duncan is better right now. he is mature and very experienced player. but give amare another 3-4 years, he'll surely improve greatly. I cant say if they'll be at the same level, but amare will definitely get better in the coming years. duncan on the other hand is getting older, and he already proved that he is a championship caliber player.

duncan for sure. but i'm gonna go a different route than anyone else to explain why.
duncan is a leader on and off the court, especially in the locker room. when have you ever heard of a teammate of his whining or griping about some petty thing?
amare has been described as cancer. the man can't contain his own feelings (case in point, the incessant whining during the playoffs) let alone support his teammates. its been said that that is why joe johnson left the suns, it was because he couldn't stand being with amare.

Amare has a lot of potential. He has had a couple good years. However he is still striving to do what Duncan has already done. Duncan is the better player right now!
