Intelligible death grunts mixed with melodic clean vocals; growls like this can be a difficult skill to master and only a few people seem to do it well. Death grunts and screaming are two completely different things. Check out Opeth for some good growls as well as clean singing.

Black metal vocals can make me want to punch a wall, but some good voices I enjoy are Bathory (fast, somewhat intelligible, and sometimes melodic) and Immortal (demonic reptile-like and usually intelligible).

Just right query, and it almost depends on my mood. Mostly nevertheless, i'm no longer relatively a colossal fan of growling vocals. Some screaming is okay, like Chino Moreno from Deftones has an awfully versatile voice, his screaming doesn't annoy me, and he has a nice vocal variety. However I believe my favourite vocal style would be mid-high octave smooth vocals, like for instance; Brandon Boyd of Incubus. He has an implausible vocal range. Listen to his stuff off of sunshine Grenades, it's first rate. Same with Make your self, and mainly each Incubus album. However vocalists like Chris Cornell, Miles Kennedy, and others of the equal an identical style just blow me away. BA: My favourite, as I acknowledged earlier than, is Brandon Boyd. I would not say that he's my favorite singer but he's in my prime 5. BA2: Hmm... I might say Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. I do know now not numerous men and women like FOB, but rattling if he does not have an excellent vocal range. BBQ(yum): YAY! I'm heading to my relative's house quickly for a pool get together, and i have obtained my three day weekend ahead of me, so it is going to be fun.

I'm gonna go with the death metal "Cookie Monster" growls. I love them, mostly. But they MUST be done right. Only certain bands have good vocalists. All that Remains, Meshuggah, and especially Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage (which is like death and power metal) are good examples. Some bands think if they scream loudly, quickly, and incomprehensibly, it makes them good. The thing about the bands I just listed is they nail the vocals well, but most of what they say is understandable.

I can appreciate Cookie Monster and all his banshee friends, all those murderous screams, and those who sound like their testicles are being squeezed in a vise. But my favorite style is the mostly straight-up singing style of Hansi Kursch.

Not to mention the fact that Blind Guardian's metal sing-a-longs (err, concerts) are lots of fun.

the upper octave screams like Rob Halford from Judas Priest used to do, and Ian Gillan from Deep Purple. I can't stand the death growl crap, though.
