I work at home I babysit a 6 yr old, 4 yr old, and sometimes my one month old niece so I'm not really working hard. Should I call my doctor and tell him this tomorrow or just wait for my next appointment(Aug. 2)

well, i have them too and sometimes moving around will cause them, my dr told me the only time i need to worry about them is if i have more than 4 in an hour or if they get so painful that i cannot walk or talk through them. Braxton Hicks are the muscles getting ready for the big day so they are normal. Go ahead and call your dr and see what he/she thinks they may have you come in now or they may have you wait and monitor them.

You should tell your OBGYN. I was like this too and was banned from exercise, including just slowly walking my dog around the block. I wasn't put on bed rest. The reason why is that even though Braxton Hicks are mostly harmless, if you have too many of them they can deprive your baby of oxygen, which obviously can cause problems. Your doc will probably tell you to stop any of the activities that cause you to have multiple BHs, such as the long walks, spicy food, maybe even sex.

Edited to add: I don't mean if you have a one or two BH after eating spicy food ... I mean if you have 15 BH after eating it. I would walk half a block and have 10-15 BH in a 3 to 4 minute time span. If I continued walking the BH would continue as well. If you're just having a few during each of these activities it's perfectly normal. It's also normal to have them every day as they are your body's way of preparing for labor. It's when they come one after another after another that they can be cause for concern.

If your having more than 4 an hour call a doctor immediately. Also when you do have one try to do the opposite of what you have been doing. For example if you were walking and being active then lay down (left side )and drink water. If you were laying down then get up and walk a little bit. Also I find that if I don't drink enough water in this weather I develop Braxton Hicks more. So make sure you are drinking enough water.

If you are only having braxton hicks contractions, I wouldn't worry unless you have something else going on However if you are concerned call your doctor, you don't mention any other children of your own, so I'm guessing this is your first pregnancy, I'm sure the nurses in the office will understand your concerned curiosity

Better a calm mom to be than an anxious one.

Sweetie, you are taking care of 3 small children at a time, give yourself some credit...that's very hard work! Is there anyway you can get a helper? In any case, take it easy this late in your pregnancy.

I did start having Braxton Hicks around 30 weeks. But it was only very sporadic. I can't really pinpoint what would trigger them. They just happened out of nowhere.

Call your doctor and let him/her know that you are having braxton hicks contractions. But try not to worry too much because it is very common to have braxton hicks throughout the last half of the pregnancy.
Good Luck.

braxton-hicks can b scary-its like pre-labor, and can b painful. First of all call your dr first thing, if your being a little crazy -its okay-better safe than sorry-u may not think u are not far along, but u are more than 1/2 way there. Call your dr, take it easy, activity wise i don't think you should do a lot-you see this little life takes a whole lot of energy out of u. Call your dr first thing-do yourself a favor-take a week of of watching those other children (if u can), and be lazy it make a huge difference-

If you are concerned, you should just call your doctor and speak to a nurse. She will tell you if you need to be seen sooner or not. Braxton Hicks are usually pretty common, but they may want to hurry up and check you to be sure they don't miss anything. I think if you are concerned about something never be afraid to call and ask. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Make sure you are getting a lot of fluids. Braxton Hicks are commonly brought on by dehydration. But why not ease your mind and call your OB. It sounds as though all is well, but starting drinking more water. And call your Dr.

Whenever I was unsure whether to call OB I would just call and ask to speak to a nurse. They take a bit more time and can screen whether it is something that needs to be discussed at length. For my money I would call on this.
Plus, you were kidding about not realy working hard watching 2-3 kids during the summer?
