I recommend that you begin to ween him from being swaddled. Loosen the blanket a little more every other day. Before long he will be without the swaddled blanket. We grow in our sleep and he should be able to stretch, and if it becomes loose it will not bother him.
Just like I used to turn on a radio when my babies were sleeping so that they would not wake because of noise.
Good Luck and God Bless you and your Angel.
Just my opinion.

my son is also 4 months, we use the little velcrow blankets, sometimes he'll poke his hands through the top in the middle of the night, but i don't think it really bothers him. But if he's not all the way asleep and his whole hand gets trhough the top, he also wakes up. So i have decided to start with naps and swaddle in a regular light blanket, let him work at it while he's sleeping, get used to the feeling. After he's okay with that, i'm going to do it at night. AFter that, i'm going to leave 1 arm out of the swaddle. But i dont plan doing that untili he's around 6 months and has good control over his arms, and maybe can put a pacifier back in his mouth if he knockes in out.
But i wouldn't worry about it too much. Since you baby sleeps great while swaddled, why stop? When he's a little older, he may want his hands out more..

He'll let you know when he's ready. So long as his sleeping habits aren't bothering you, I say stick to what works. My son is 9 months, and we still swaddle him. Like yours, he used to wake when he became unwrapped, but now sleeps right through. We use the swaddle to calm him down at night, to help him fall asleep. Just make sure he can't get the blanket over his face, and don't worry too much!

My three month old daughter out grew it by herself. I think that she stopped needing it around a month and a half old. It really all depends on the baby. I know that my nephew who is 6 months still needs to be swaddled and I know of babies a couple weeks old who want nothing to do with it.

My son was too big to be swaddled for too long. I'd stop by now. Your son will enjoy moving his legs and arms around. At 4 months they're bigger than when first born and I'd think it would be healthy for your son to stretch and move. You may have to deal with him crying, but that's how it is.

I did this to my first child she would not sleep unless rocked or folded up tight we did this until she was 6 months and then tried to put her in the crib nightmare took us until she was a year to get a full nights sleep by then she was in a toddler bed.
with the 2nd kid we stop doing that when she was 3 months worked out great she took right to the crib with out being rocked or tightly wrapped up.
So its up to you i can tell your stories all day between my kids there night and day lol but you only know what your child needs and what you can see out of him in a few months for the sleeping pattern.
Good luck

Whenever you feel comfortable. When you are ready to "lose" it just make it a little looser than before every couple of nights then do his arms out of it. He will learn......
