I ran across this little bugger earlier today and have no idea what it is. Anyone?

I'd say it's length is about 2" long, and it doesn't appear that it's old shell had wings. I've never seen one of these things before.

Looks like a cicada.

I have never actually SEEN one emerge from it's old skin, but I find the empty shells all the time. They are probably one of the oldest living bugs in the world.

I agree with retjoe...looks like a young cicada. Ugly and bothersome but harmless to humans.

We always see those. Usually on a pine tree. It's just a beetle. We call them katy dids. Not sure the spelling.

That's a cicada or locust. Noisy, ugly, and destructive to crops, but harmless to humans.

It's a locust shedding it's shell. They are a type of grasshopper.

It's a praying-mantis, just after going through the moulting.
