While it may seem like a long shot right now, we know that NASA is planning to be on Mars by 2020 with the idea of setting up permanent bases on both our moon, Luna, and Mars itself. The Science Channel was making claims that they were going to try "dirtying" up the atmosphere, to create a stronger atmosphere, that could eventually lead to the ability to stay on Mars without an artificial source of oxygen.

Anyways...is anyone as hopeful as I am? I would give anything to be a part of the waves of civilians that make the trip for work or for leisure. I am going to school to be an anesthesiologist and hope that maybe...just maybe one day my skills might be necessary on Mars or anywhere else in space.

First off, you better get the best grades, major in astrophyics in college, or you're not going to get selected by NASA for colonization or "terra-forming".

Or do ya just feel lucky.

By the sound of you, you're going to school to be the wrong thing!! I have that dream, to go to Mars, all my life and I'm pursuing that dream by majoring in Aerospace Engineering. I am very hopeful and know that it can be done, once I become a part of the program!! ;) J/K I do hope someday my dream will come true and I will be one of those people breathing from that artificial source of oxygen!!

Even if we can Terra Form..it will be at least 40-70 years before we have the technology or the money to send waves of humans to Mars..that is..if we survive the next 10 years..which we won't because political corectness is going to destroy that which hardworking men have made!

What a gas...

Well, I can forsee a good deal of opportunities for farmers, and road builders on Mars. Building contractors should do
fairly well for the next hundred thousand years or so. At present, I don't think there will be much need for fishermen
up there.

I doubt they'll be there by 2020. But you might want to get your resume ready.

There are the facts. You can't come back for 3 years. That's reality.

You have to like living in cramped space breathing canned air and eating hikers food for 3 years.

Dream on, young man, and prepare yourself. Not too long ago man was convinced that the Earth was flat and he would fall off the edge if he ventured too far from home, look where we are now with people like you making plans to live on another planet. Good luck to you.

Watch Gov. Schwartzeneger in "Total Recall". We're gonna need a lot of slaves in those mines and a handful of slave drivers. If you'd rather be a slave driver, you'd better do your own homework, instead of asking us to do it for you.
