My first thought is "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing". I used to HATE to read anything because I was always helping my brother with homework. They also have other series of books and they are the funny things in life that happen to us all as kids growing up. Right down to sibling rivalry and dirty tricks that we then have since then learned to appreciate one another when we're older.
Or course, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy mysteries and Mod Squad were also great. (oops, showing my age) Good luck in finding what your looking for!!!:>)
