Your breasts are never really empty. They may feel that way, but as long as baby is suckling correctly (good positioning and latch), he is getting milk on-demand. So you can nurse right after pumping and baby can still get milk. That being said, the rate/flow of milk may not be what the baby's used to if you've just pumped, which could be frustrating for him. He may spend longer at the breast, but that doesn't mean you don't have milk, it just means it's taking longer to get it out. I wouldn't worry about pumping right now, give it at least 3-4 wks or so for your body to adjust to milk production.

your breasts will "learn" to produce on demand. so if you are pumping and then feeding about an hour later then your breasts will start to produce more milk. this can help you get "stocked up" but be warned that when you stop pumping so often, or when baby slows down then you will have engorgement problems. I know I did. My Son was all the stimulation that I needed. he ate so much that when I went back to work I had to get away to pump every hour or so! and I could fill 4 + breast milk bags during my 6 hour shift!
just take it easy for now. your baby is still quite young and patterns and habits will change for the next few weeks until you two learn a routine that works.

Pumping is just like your baby nursing. If you empty both breasts pumping and the baby does the same, then your breasts will be filled by the next time your baby has to nurse - 3-4 hours. Your baby stimulates your milk production and the pumping does the same. Doesn't take long for them to fill up again.

at a week you are probably still trying to work up a good milk suply, if he seems hungry then you can feed him right a way and it will just help get your milk going more, but if you think your good in that department then about 1 or 2 hours.
