Well...down here where I live in Alabam a story is told of a certain bunch of country boys who would go hunting and when
they had remained in the sun for a while, the sun would beat
down upon their necks giving them the same appearance as
that of a turkeys neck. But these boys proved to be mighty
ingenious (for want of a better word) and begat a whole passel of children who had a penchant for taking little or nothing and turning it into workable items, though the means
might at times be...well.....er.....fantastic. So much so that a whole culture of jokes and stories have evolved praising their
er...uh...lifestyles. Different cultures have different names for
these fellows. Red Necks is one of the kindest.

It's a mildly offensive term for a lower class white person from the southeastern states of the USA. Derives from someone who spent a lot of time on manual labour outside and so received a "red neck" from the sun.

Rednecks are country white people. All southern whites are not rednecks, it is the ones that talk really country and dress in plaid shirts and wrangler jeans all time. A lot of rednecks hunt deer, and drive pickup trucks nearly all the time. I live in the south and can look at someone and tell if they are a redneck are not and I am right most of the time.

White or really poor people who shop at wal-mart and drive pick up trucks. They often live on a farm or in run down moble homes. They have broken or no teeth and wear horrible clothing....they have hounds and like to listen to country.
