I know a guy who's on a 40-day roster, but has only played in something like 8 MLB games this year. Is he making the league minimum (@380K), or something else because he's not full time?

Thanks!

the league minimum is just that. The lowest possible amount of money a team is allowed to pay a player with a certian level of major league experience.

Depends on the deal but nearly all players get a major league salary only when they are on the 25 man major league roster and they get a minor league paycheck while in the minors. There are some very rare exceptions (high 1st rounders with leverage) who may get the ML minimum whether or not they are in the bigs but for the most part only while they are on the major league roster (the 25 man one...not the 40) or put on IR while getting injured in a ML game will they get the minimum. If a guy gets called up and returned several times during the season between the ML and minor league they get a pro-rated ML salary for every day they are in the ML (they get at least the minimum divided by 162 for each game day they are called up....plus the road meal stipend if they arent playing home games, which often is more than they make per day in the minors by itself). The contracts are referred to as 2 way deals....one salary (at least the ML minimum while on the ML roster) or whatever number is agreed to while they play in the minors (again this salary can fluxuate quite a bit depending on how they are regarded as a prospect).
