Has anyone in the east coast area had this done? I live in the Baltimore/Washington Metro area and I think this is the best option for my husband and I. I have older three children, but after my third I had a tubal ligation. At that point I was not interested in having any more children because I was young. Things have changed in my life and I would love to have two more. My husband doesn't have any children. I do not want to get a tubal reversal, because of the pain and I want the security of not having a "surprise" pregnancy.

I think gender selection is a great option because of a number of reasons. We want twins, a boy and a girl. Has anyone had this procedure done? I know it is expensive, and we are prepared for that.

I have done a lot of research online on this but I want to hear from people who have had personal experience with a great clinic. I am not interested in people who just want to give their option on the moral aspect of this procedure.

Thanks!!

You would do better to contact an infertility clinic locally and asking them if they do gender selection. If they don't, who would they refer you to? Most clinics refer patients since the process is generally only done by a few (tricky process) and normally to avoid the risk of genetic transmission of sex-linked or sex-dominant diseases. Yes, there is a chance (very small) that someone close to you has done the very same thing, but the chances of them being in this section of Yahoo!answers is also small.

I live in Annapolis and and doing IVF - when checking out clinics in the area - none of them are doing gender selection at this time - Shady Grove is the largest fertility clinic in MD/VA/DC - and probably the most advanced - and they do not offer it. The cost for their regular IVF procedure is $12,000 - our insurance covers 1/2 of that - in Maryland, health insurance for companies that have over 50 employees, must offer infertility benefits of 1/2 of the cost.

Hope this helps - best of luck...

I have 2 family memebers who have gone through IVF. Most doctors will not do this for ethical reasons. Also, there are only so many good fertilized eggs and they don't want to waste the good ones because they aren't the desired sex. You can ask, but it's discouraged.
