Like "AR" said, this is a big question. Sometimes it's helpful to take a step back from a question itself, and decide if the question makes sense. That way, you might end up with different ways of approaching the issues addressed BY the question.

So, for example, you might consider that: 1) We were not "put here", or 2) We were put here.

If we were not put here, that means we evolved here and are part of the system..not something apart from the world. Thus, humanity would be one expression of the creative power and beauty of nature. The flip side would be that aliens, or god, or I don't know what "put" us here. In that case, we're pretty much comparable to rats in a lab experiment. There may have been a reason to "put us here", but (in my opinion) that would still mean that our place in the universe is something less than in the first case.

Anyway, these are just some ideas to get you going. You can think about the consequences of these two ideas on your own. That is, if people believe option 1 is correct, then how should they act? What about option 2? Form they ways people ARE acting, which option do you believe most people agree with???

If you can think these through, your on your way to becoming a philosopher! Good luck!

We were not put here, we evolved into, what is more than likely, the most intelligent life form in existence. We have found out how to tame the atom and we have a very good idea of how it all started. We peer into the depths of space longing to find other life forms that we can communicate with and we are spending vast amounts of time and resources to do this. We are in danger of ruining this beautiful planet, if there is a point to our being here we had better use our intelligence to solve the problems we face today.

We are here to learn "hands on" what we previously only knew in theory. The true "classroom" is the spiritual realm and physical reality as we know it is more like a "field trip" into physical existence. Similar to the way someone may go to college to become an Engineer but does not experience what it is like to be an Engineer until he or she is in the workplace as an Engineer. Spiritual growth is the point. Concepts like empathy and compassion are more quickly learned and better understood if you are in a situation where you need these things from others sometime in your life. In many cases the more difficult your life situation the more you learn in this lifetime. You came here knowing what it is you needed to learn. In many instances those experiencing the greatest difficulties in their life are the brave souls who had a great thirst for growth.

My answer to the question is religion, coz...when the earth didnt exist...someone had to make it...the only person with that power is God, I think we all have a purpse, no matter how lazy or how much of a criminal you are, i think we were all put on earth to make a difference and learn lessons from our own and other peoples mistakes. But how we got here i really dont know, and probably never will.

This is more of a philosophy question than an astronomy question. To answer it from a cosmological point of view, we're here because we could be. The conditions here were favorable for our kind of life, and we came about because of that fact.

Philosophically, "why are we here" has yet to be answered to everyone's satisfaction. My own thoughts on the subject, of course, lead me to the frustrating conclusion that "the answer is: there is no answer."

Of all of the things in the world that are, I have yet to only find one that is inherantly valuable in and of itself. That one thing is happiness. Everything else only has value because we say it does, or value based on something else which itself has no inherant value.

Happiness, however, is the reason we do pretty much everything. So to me, that's the meaning of life: be happy. Otherwise, you're wasting your time. My own personal corolary to this conclusion is to make others happy as well. I hope this helps! It's no easy task to accomplish, but good luck to you!

We were put here because a mosquito bit the first intelligent alien who set foot here, and he thought it would be fun to get his revenge on all of Earth's native critters by infesting the place with humans. Besides, we were stinking up his cargo hold.

There are so many rows to hoe, and plants to plant, and fruits to pick that someone had to do all that work. just look at how many people it takes to lick and seal all the envelopes that the mail has every day. It is a hard life but someone has to do it.
