There is no support for the draft from anyone. Although I think all should serve. I am a veteran who served in the 10th Mountain Division.
The real question should be why was there no plan for a war, why military commanders were not listened too,why do we blindly listen to our president without viewing the truth of the facts at hand, and why are we considering voting for candidates who admit they did not review the war plan before voting for the war.

Republicans will never support the draft, That would mean the wealthy in that party would have to fight and die in Iraq for oil and money. The Bush Military Commanders on the ground in Iraq are talking now about more troops not less in Iraq..
The Impeachment of Bush and Cheney is the only option for Democrats to end the occupation of Iraq which Congress never approved. It's the only way to save life lost.

Neither party wants a draft and most people would be against one. We do need more volunteers but the draft will not work. We have good men there now and better pay might get more to join. Peace

If Bush started rattling on about a draft, the war would be over in, say, 7 to 10 days.

or how about this- why doesn't every member of Congress be forced to have a family member or two be drafted, and then we'll find out how quickly we can get all of our soldiers out of Iraq? Make them find out how it feels to have a family member killed or injured in the line of duty.

I was originally apposed to having a draft, but I can easily see that we do need one. It appears as though we're going to be there for years to come.
shortbus, the demise of the family farm began years ago when the conglomerates began taking over. The various associations are the voice of the farmer and the conglomerates own that voice. It's all about big business and more outsourcing. :)

I haven't heard that us Republicans don't support a draft, do you have a source? A draft wouldn't bother me a bit, send the anti-conservatives who don't support the war, and give them a taste of what it's like to fight for freedom. These men and women sign up for the military, they know that they are at risk of being deployed for combat, so it is a personal choice on their part. My hubby is on his third tour, I don't mind, why do you care so much?

Here's a novel idea support the troops..... doesn't take a rocket scientist to See when Harry Reid and Palosi embolden the insurgency.... could be aiding of the killing of those volunteers...you know the ones that serve so you don't have too...

I would ask why the dems are so ready to start up a draft when it is not currently needed...however, we all know the answer. First, they tried to say that Bush was going to enact the draft, but when that dog didn't hunt, they try to put out the word that the draft is needed, and then they will try to blame republicans for causing the draft to be necessary.
So, simply put, reps are not in favor of it because it is not needed currently. Dems are in favor of it because they THINK it would suit them politically. However, the smarter of the dems are even distancing themselves from those few who support it, because they know that this political game is doomed to backfire.
