Cox is blocking port 80, so i am running my server off of port 999, how can i hide the mydomain.com:999 and make it mydomain.com?

By default web browsers only check certain ports. What you are doing by changing the port is running it on a port that a browser does not check by default.

I am unaware of anyway to change your browser to have it automatically check port 999. Even if there is a way to do this it would only effect the specific machine that the change was made on. It would not have any impact on other visitors to your site.

To use port 80 you'll have to upgrade your account with Cox.

Another option is to host your website elsewhere.

You can get free webhosting at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officelive/default.aspx and I believe they will allow you to use your existing domain name..

It would be a lot more helpful if you would bother to write clearly and completely.

As I see it your ISP is blocking port 80, the http port so subscribers in your subscription group cannot run a web server.

You have decided to violate Cox's criteria and are asking people to use port 999 rather than port 80.

If users were to enter http://mydomain.com:999 they can get through and bypass Cox's criteria.

However, you don't want them to know what you are doing so you want them to enter http://mydomain.com and somehow have it translated to http://mydomain.com:999 unbeknown to those who entered http://mydomain.com. This way you can outsmart Cox people and violate your subscription agreement with them.

Of course, you are surely violating Cox's criteria and you feel they are too naive to fall for your scheme. Never mind that they monitor your traffic volume and will impose a surcharge if you exceed allocated traffic volume regardless of whether you outsmart them with the port 999 translation. After all, how could Cox be that capable?

You could use a dynamic dns and this would likely acheive your need. It also would increase traffic and probably be detected by Cox.

You, being the superior outwitter of Cox also understand that you should have a dmz on your web server and that you should port forward to your dmz. Surely you know how to do that too.
