The largest denomination currently in circulation is the $100 bill. All others have been discontinued. The largest ever was the $100,000 Series 1934 Gold Certificate featuring the portrait of President Wilson. These notes were printed from December 18, 1934 through January 9, 1935.

Here's what I got from the Federal Reserve's website...
What happened to the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 notes?
On July 14, 1969, the Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve System announced that currency notes in denominations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 would be discontinued immediately due to lack of use. Although they were issued until 1969, they were last printed in 1945. These notes are legal tender and may be found in circulation today; however, most are probably in the hands of collectors.
Hope this helps!

Pish posh, these people answering without the links you asked for!
$100 is currently the largest, though larger bills, including the $500 have been printed in the past. Most were phased out between 1929 and 1969; in '69 Nixon gave an executive order to stop their printing in order to stop organized crime.
And now... your link, Sir. Wikipedia defines "large denominations of US currency" as higher than $100, so the article should tell you all you need. In the event that my summary wasn't crackerjack enough! :) :)

^Right now the largest bill is the $100, but back in 1934 there was $100,000 Series 1934 Gold Certificate.
No longer in print $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000, they stopped during WW2. The site below reveals all.

The largest denomination ever circulated was a $100,000 bill but per the US Treasury website, the highest bill in circulation now is $100.
(I wonder where that $100,000 bill is now...)

I think there are $500 and even $1,000, but I also know that banks are supposed to report large cash transactions, because the feds want to know who has a lot of cash. Mostly I think they are looking for drug dealers, but possibly other sorts of illegal transactions as well.
