That is totally bull what they told you, that only confirms that these pet store employees know nothing about fish keeping
Any way, you're able to add plants ( I would recommend real ones) they love they lay on them and rest
As for other decorations, you can put anything in there you want as long it can't hurt your fish like sharp edges
Also what I see from your question is, that you bought a bowl?!?
Please do yourself and especially your Betta a big favor and get at least a 2.5 gallon tank with filter and heater
He will be much healthier and happier in there
Hope that helps
Good luck

Bettas don't know what they look like. Whites are no different from any other color. The only consideration is some whites are more albino than white. They don't do well with strong direct light. As far as decorations avoid anything with sharp edges. For the halfmoons, and superdeltas I'd recommend not putting thing is their bowl as they often rip their fins.

If you have a small bowl it is ok thaht you put a little rocks and a fake plant that sticks to the bottom of the bowl and cover it with few rocks but if you have a big tank why not i can tell you this they do like to hide behind things and it will not hurt

Totaly not true. LOL---pet stores frighten me sometimes.
You need to get a good sized bowl, if you are going that route. But what would be better is a 2.5 gallon tank. They have some wonderful acrylic ones that are inexpensive and a much better home for your Betta to live in.
Regardless of their color ;-)

Not true. Gravel is not necessary, but bettas do like to have plants in their tanks so they can rest on the leaves and get privacy when they want it. Just remember to buy silk, cloth or rubber plants - plastic ones can tear their delicate fins.

Total bunk. You treat white (or Opaque) bettas the same as any other betta, color doesn't matter at all.

if that's what the pet store said then I'd listen to them. most of the time when you see betta fish in the store they are by themselves in a small bowl with nothing else in it... try www.bettafish.com
