I doubt most drivers of such cars know that the stripe or stripes can be of some benefit to driving down the road, but I don't know the right way to use a rally stripe. I sort of get the idea of a single stripe in front of the driver, but tell me more. What benefit is it to have a stripe on the passenger side? I've seen a few cars with only one stripe and it's on the passenger side and I don't get it.

Thanks.

I was told by an exhibitor at an RAC rally in the uk that the rally stripes were for effect. Then at another exhibit were you could spend a day learning to rally drive that the stripe on the drivers side was used to line up the car to go into corners.. especially at night.
The same exhibitor said that some drivers now had them on the passenger side to help guage the width of the car and again so they could aim the car along the road...
I thought he was taking the ***** when he said that on a staight the driver lined his stipe up with the white line on the road...... keeps from from drifting he said... I also heard that it was just a racing thing.... to show it was a rally car ... go faster stripes....
Only having one on the passenger side ... may be the guy was english and forgot where the steering wheel was...
