Your baby might be allergic to the brand of diaper you are using. Our son developed some serious diaper rash using Huggies but it went away when we put him in Pampers.

We use a product called Flanders Buttocks Ointment. It works VERY well. Another product that I have heard great things about, but have not personally tried, is Bordreaux's Butt Paste.

Let the child remain nude as much as possible. The air will help aid in clearing the rash up.

If the child wets or messes a diaper, try and change immediately and "dab" rather than wipe the affected area. Perhaps a warm shower (do you have one of those shower heads that pulls down) to clean and then dab dry with a clean towel. Again, air drying is the best bet.

If nothing else is helping, consult the pediatrician. Sometimes a prescription is necessary-Nyastatin is what I believe it is called. It works wonders!

I pray it gets cleared up soon-little one must be so uncomfortable.

EDITED TO ADD: You can also consult the pharmacist, and tell them what you have tried and they may be able to offer some advice.

How old is the baby? Is he/she eating solids? Have you introduced any new foods or changed formulas or if breastfeeding tried anything at all new? It could be a number of things. It could be allergy related or your baby could be getting an illness or maybe you aren't changing his/her diapers fast enough to prevent rashing. It's hard to say.

What I would do is get Dr Boudreaux's Baby Butt Paste and some corn starch(it's like baby powder but uses corn starch instead of talc which can be bad for respiratory system-available in the baby care aisle not the one in the baking aisle) After you wash and dry the area apply the butt paste kinda thick like you are putting peanut butter on toast and then sprinkle the corn starch on that. It's the best barrier you can make to heal a rash. Also after bath or after a diaper change, give the area a chance to dry without a diaper on in the air.

If that STILL doesn't work and you haven't introduced anything new to the baby like laundry detergent or new foods, then you are going to have to call your pediatrician for help.

When nothing else helps with my 8 month lod I use cornstarch, sounds really weird but it works, also there is this stuff called Butt Paste, no joke, that works wonders too, I know it is a crazy name but yeah it owrks, also you may be able to find baby powder with pure cornstarch in it. I have to use that for my daughter cause sometimes if her rash is really bad other products sting on her, Well I hope that helps

There have been many suggestions, so I will just add stuff that wasn't already suggested.

Sometimes it's the diaper brand. Try switching to another brand. Some women switched entirely to a cloth diaper before baby got relief (homemade or ones you buy online).

I'd put in him a playpen or someplace where it's okay for him to pee (like on the floor with a mattress pad underneath and let him go without a diaper or any kind of ointment or powder for a few hours.

Call up your pediatrician and take your bundle in and have them look at them. It could be a food or detergent allergy. I know you mention desitin, have you by chance tried an anti-fungal cream? As odd as it might sound, its usually found in foot care sections and I have used it on both my kids for bad rashes. Definitely talk to your doc, even a phone call.

Could be a food allergy. I'd start a food log (write down everything baby eats and in what quantities and when) and get an appt w/ the dr. If baby is exclusively breastfed, the link below may help.
