he definatly deserves more money, but I wouldn't make him the highest payed corner. Hes a top 10-15 conerback for me, and needs that kind of money

As far as Asante Smauel goes, he deserves to be paid, but not for just one year of production and expecting Champ Bailey like money. As most people have probably forgotten, as recent as 2 years back, he was just another no name cornerback benefitting from Belichick's brilliant defensive schemes. The great thing about it is, he has more of those no name defenders ready to step in if Samuel is a no show. Does he give the Patriots a better secondary? Yes. Does he deserve a raise? Yes. Does he deserve Bailey-like money after only one good year? No. He is a good cornerback, but Belichick knows perfectly well that he has backups, capable of doing Smauel's job almost as good as he would do. Personally, as far as figures, he should be awarded the same amount New England tried to re-sign Ty Law to 3 years ago in 2004 to a 5 year, 36 Million dollar deal woth 17 million in gaurenteed money. This way Samuel is locked up for a long time with a nice signing bonus, and they Patriots keep a rising cornerback and not breaking the bank as well.

If the Pats let go a more valuable Adam Vinatieri or team icons like Willie McGinest and Ty Law, why they want to keep Asante?
They should let him go and see if anybody else wants to give him all that money.
Just put Ellis Hobbs and Eugene Wilson (he was a corner before moving to FS) at CB, Rodney Harrison at SS and Meriweather at FS.

I don't agree he's being a jerk. this is his living, and football players have a very short career. so get paid as much as you can while you can, and still healthy enough to get paid. good for him. If your good then get your money.

He'll be playing when the season begins. He'll sit out of training camp, but will be back for the season opener. Cash is what matters to him. If he sits out, he misses out on his more than $450,000 paycheck per game. No way he'll sit out the whole season. Even one game would be very dumb. No way he sits out 10 games, thats 4.5 million.
