I mean, most people I know look down on them, but why?

I have no idea why people do - some brands are just picked as cool and some aren't. there's a sketchers shoe store on melrose in hollywood, right across the street is a tiny hole-in-the-wall crappy shoe store and sketchers is always empty and the crappy store is always packed.

they tried to up their "cool" quota by using younger people (eg Ashlee Simpson) to advertise but personally, i think people look down on them because their designs are lame and they're not comfortable. they seem to fall in that gray area - shoes that are ugly and not cool - because there are definitely shoes that are ugly and are cool and shoes that are good-looking and cool.

ehh, trends and the unpredictable whimsy of shoppers, I guess.

I don't know. Sketchers are my favorite brand. I love them and have never seen anyone look down on them.

I own three pair of Sketchers.
No one I know rails on me.
It must be your "friends."
What type of crowd do you hang with?
If you dress differently than them, maybe they are not people you should hang with.
