If you're talking about methadone to beat a heroin addiction, beating a heroin addiction can be really serious to your health. Going cold turkey, which is the only way to do it can seriously damage a person, if not kill them.
Addiction is both emotional and physical. The body starts needing the drug to function. When the drug is removed, the symptoms of withdrawl are intense and often dangerous. Because of the difficulty and danger involved in breaking a heroin addiction, as well as the incredibly high relapse rate (across the board, alcohol addicts have a 30% chance of quitting once and for all, even in AA, narcotic addicts have an even smaller chance) methadone is a significantly less addicting alternative, addiction to which is easeier to beat than heroin addiction.
Admittidly many people remain addicted to methadone their entire lives, and you can develop an addiction to methadone without a preexisting heroin addiction, but it's easier to beat. Easier being a relative term.

If he has truthfully been sober for 2 years, than i'd say that that's available. My mom was a heavy heroin person and he or she has been sober for upwards of 18 years without relapses. It of direction relies upon on the dedication of the guy in question, yet while he has the suited coping skills and is set to not pass returned to it then he could be "cured" of his dependancy. I positioned cured in citation marks because of the fact there have been contemporary learn that coach that there is a genetic predisposition to starting to be an addict. in all probability he will constantly run the possibility of relapsing, yet while he can stay far flung from situations that positioned him into touch with the medicine and have the dedication to not do them if he's in those situations, i'd say your brother would be ok.

There are certain drugs that limit the receptability of certain receptors to certain things aka endorphins that make the body feel good. They now have a new stop smoking drug that does just that. I understand your reasoning but broad reasoning doesn't really work for extremely specific scientific purposes. My point is you can understand broadly "why" something has it's purpose but understanding the "how" is a totally different much more detailed driven process.

They give you drugs they can wean you off of without the terrible side effects. Go cold turkey off some drugs and you kill yourself. What they give you helps you withdraw safely.

They give you drugs that are of lesser and lesser strength than what you are taking so you gradually become less dependant on the original drug.
