The only mid-atlantic state not to touch the atlantic ocean?

As an aside, West Virginia is also the only state with two panhandles, is the only state made up entirely of mountains, and is the only state to secede from the confederacy into the union (though they did it by removing themselves from virginia, which is kind of cheating).

Finally, West Virginia is the only state with a statue of Abraham Lincoln in his bathrobe (it's on the state capitol grounds).

EDIT: All you folks saying "maryland": Worcester County, in Maryland's southeastern tip, borders the atlantic ocean, just south of delaware.

It ain't Maryland. About half of the DelMarVa peninsula is Maryland, with beaches on both the ocean and the bay.

West Virginia is part of the south or part of Appalachia. Although a few misguided souls claim W Va to be a mid-Atlantic state, it is not, particularly given its history and formation as a state.

The state you are looking for is not a state, it is a commonwealth. It has a major Atlantic seaport, but it does not touch the Atlantic Coast.

Pennsylvania is generally considered a Mid-Atlantic State, but has no contact with the Atlantic Ocean.

WV is not universally considered a Mid Atlantic state, although the definition of this term varies depending on where you are (people in DC tend to extend the border somewhat further south than those in the northern states).

Depends what part you are in. The peidmont has rolling hills. The Blue Ridge in the west is a mountain chain (okay not like the Rockies or anything, but still mountains). Near the coast is flat. There is also the Chesapeake Bay. Important people include George Washington, George Mason, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe. A lot of the founding fathers and early presidents.
