The saddest movie I have ever seen was "Grave of the Fireflies".
It is about a young boy in Japan during WWII. He loses his parents and is left alone to care for his sister. He tries as hard as he can, but she dies of starvation.
The first line of the movie is actually the most disturbing one: "September 21, 1945... that was the night I died."

A movie from Iran called "The Color of Paradise".
In this movie, a father has a blind son, who he does not accept because he is blind. Not only does he not accept him, but he is trying to cause his death by accident. The child keeps escaping miraculously. Finally, the father decides to give up and the boy does have an accident (not through his father) and he is dying. Why is it so sad? Because finally the father wants his son and wants him to live, but now it's too late. It was really heartbreaking.
