It just mysteriously stops. Experts think it could be the time when they think time will end. Its kinda freaky because I think the day it stops, the earth lines up with the sun and a black hole and the alignment could result in a shift in the earth's poles. If this happened, it could be the end of human life on the earth because it would cause earthquakes and volcanoes to erupt. I'm not saying i believe that this will happen, but its a theory i heard on the history channel. The Mayans are really good at predicting things...

it is not actual. Many have faith that the Maya civilization's long count variety calendar ends all quickly on December 21, 2012. This false impression is because of the Maya practice of using in straightforward terms 5 places in long count variety Calendar inscriptions. On some monuments the Maya calculated dates a procedures into the previous and destiny yet there is no end of the worldwide date. there will be a Piktun ending (a cycle of 13 a hundred and forty four,000 day Bak'tuns) on December twenty first, 2012. A Piktun marks the tip of a a million,872,000 day or approximately 5125 12 months era and is a crucial experience interior the Maya calendar. I nevertheless, although, believe ok.O: i'm gonna be conscious all day to make certain what occurs.

I have heard and read many different theories, none of these are mine. Some have said that is when aliens will return (Inca calender says 2014, something to think about), another was that they thought the few planets they could observe would be lined up the way they were when they first started the calender, essentially meaning that the calender would simply start all over. I've also heard it might signify a cycle in sever weather change, like drought, flooding, etc.

I hadn't heard of this before, but when I looked it up, I found the following website, which may interest you:
http://www.saxakali.com/historymam7.htm
There's a whole section called "End of the Mayan Great Cycle: December 21st, 2012 A.D."
I hope this helps.

It is simply the date on which their calendar must be rest. It's something like the end of a year (only a really really long year) called an Earth Cycle. It has nothing to do with the end of the earth it was simply a misinterpretation.

That's what I keep asking myself. My Playboy Playmate calendar for 1967 ended on December 31 1967, and the world didn't end then.

Hi. On that date the plane of the ecliptic and the plane of the galaxy coincide. They simply predicted this from their calender, but I don't think even THEY thought the world wound end. It was just a prediction. http://www.levity.com/eschaton/Why2012.html
