I think if a guy does something nice for a girl, it means he wants to have sex with her about 40% of the time. Some guys are just disgusting, but most are actually decent human beings. When I guy I know does something nice or expensive for me, I don't feel obligated to have sex with him. And if he's only doing to have sex, then it's not really a nice gift, is it? It's bribery. Remember: Girls can say they totally owe you without meaning sexually.

Not so much obligated. I just feel like (we always get together at my Grandmother's) my Grandmother shouldn't have to do everything and I want her to know that I appreciate what she does for us. I would be embarassed if I just sat there while my mom and my Grandmother cleaned up. My aunt's don't really help. They kind of leave before the cleaning, and they don't show up until after the table is set. They do bring food though...

I don't feel obligated to start the chores but I do feel obligated to ask if the host needs help with everything. I think it is very respectful to do so since she/he took the time to host at her/his place and plan for everyone to have the family gathering in the first place and you'll see how if you host at a later date they will show you the same respect.

Well because of my European background it is almost frowned upon if the women don't do that to begin with. So yes, I do fell obligated to do such chores - it's such a chore!

Yes I do feel obligated when I am visting a family member that I should help out with things that needs to be done. I don't feel right visiting someone without helping out with whatever house chores that needs to be done. I have always been good that way and was always glad to help out.

I will help where I am needed. It that means setting the table or washing dishes, I'm there. If that means helping out with the "masculine" chores, I'll do that too. I am not limited by "gender roles".

It's not really an obligation. It's more of a way of female bonding. At the end of the meal, you have a choice in my family: go outside and smoke cigars with the boys (yuck!) or set up desert and gossip with the girls. That's just more fun for me. And if anything, I'm one of the older cousins in my family, and my role is watching over, taking care of, entertaining the younger cousins. They look up to me and my younger sister so we keep them company, and keep them out of my aunt's hair so she can talk with the adults. It's condemned me to the children's table for eternity, but it's fun, too. I like this role in my family!

No way, unless it's my house I don't do a thing until I'm asked. Gimme a break I take care of 3 kids aged 4 and under all day every day. If anyone is foolish enough to invite us over, they better be prepared to accept the consequences. LOL

I used to volunteer because my SIL sat on her butt doing nothing, then I realized that the more I helped, the more my MIL joined her so I was the only one doing anything. My MIL then began planning these huge family get-togethers and expecting me to do it all. Since I was pregnant when it started, and on bedrest, I had a way out. Now I occupy myself with my daughter. If she wants to throw these parties, she can do it.
With more grateful people, like my parents, I want to help, but dont feel obligated.

Nope, I feel like talking to everyone else and just eating the food. Only when I get bored and have nothing else to do and I feel totally awkward that's when I get up and do the lady work.
