Because the invasion of Iraq was straight-forward. The mission was to depose Saddam and look for WMDs.
The issues regarding staying there for years afterward, and either staying there for many more years or not, are more complex.
Bush didn't consider ANY of those. He just went in, stomped his feat, and said we're staying forever. Or at least until his term is over, at which point it becomes someone else's problem to solve.

Let me see, we were attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, we invaded Iraq in 2003, gee, that's quite some time and as I recall almost every Democrat VOTED to go to war with Iraq so don't blame it all on Bush, My question to you is why did so many Dems vote for it if they weren't for it???? At least Bush is consistent and is persuaded by the ever changing public opinion.

Because Dick didn't let him think about the consequences of invading Iraq, and now that Dick's goal has been achieved ( gaining access to Iraq's oilfields) he is letting Bush twist in the wind. Don't mistake confusion for thought.

He gave little or no thought to invading and even less to leaving. Now he is in over his head and doesn't know what to do. I understand that he is crawling back into the bottle again and that he has serious problems spacing out when in meetings especially about the war.

Why is it that every time this is posted you never get a liberal to admit that his liberal heroes were as much in favor of invading Iraq as the president. They only changed their minds when the polls started showing people not supporting the president as much. Is this the liberal definition of leadership???

I usually get mad at people who criticize Bush but that is a very good question. He definitely rushed the Iraq invasion.
