I'm a female, and I think that if a female wants to work, absolutely, it should be done, but now since womens lib it seems that women HAVE to work in order for there to be enough money for the family to live, I think that women should not have to work and men need to step up to the plate.

I agree with you. Women's lib hurt the family terribly, especially the women themselves!

Wishful thinking . But it's not visible. The economic and status of families have changed over centuries. With the economy the burden of low wages have not lifted up to their plates. Meaning people do not earn enough to put a roof over their heads and feed a family of four! Wages haven't increased and the minimum wages have just bearly moved from $ 5.25 to $ 7.12. However, most states do not even enforce the new wage rate yet. Also a lot of folks can't afford education anymore, cause education costs have risen steadily. Meaning with less education there is less income to live on. The liberal movement ( I assume that's what you mean ) has given women a lot of more rights. Especially in the early stages it has given American women the right to vote. They did not have that right to vote back than. With that where lot's of other rights they have! Equal pay for instant. However that instant pay is still debatable. Nevertheless, we must say no matter what today's world can't live on ones income. That idea is just an illusion!

Women's "lib" had nothing to do with women working outside the home. Women have been working outside the home for centuries, in different cultures. Women HAVE to work outside the home in order for there to be enough money because of things like inflation, interest rates and cost of housing, rising insurance and medical costs, NOT "women's lib", sorry. Remember that women really became a working force in America during WWII when all our men were overseas fighting for our freedom, and someone had to run those factories! When the war was over, things changed again, and the men took back over their factory jobs, and many women returned to the home, but many women chose to continue to make their way in the world, as many have before them and since them. Just fyi, the real reason American women began working outside the home in larger numbers came from the industrial revolution. Again, folks had to work in those factories, you know. Someone had to sew those clothes, make those shoes, etc. Men can't be responsible for everything all the time. Daughters left the homes on the farms for factory jobs in the cities, where they earned wages that they also sent home to help the family out on the farm until they got married. And again, getting married was not necessarily a guarantee you weren't going to continue to work outside the home.

Personally, I've always worked, even though I haven't HAD to all the time. The extra money means we have some little luxuries like nice vacations and extra perks in the house like new furniture, etc. Because I chose to work, my husband and I will enjoy an early retirement.

As for men "stepping up to the plate" and taking care of us, sorry dear, but that's pretty unrealistic today, and it's pretty much going to always be that way I think. Women don't need men to get by anymore, women are educated and smart and can take care of themselves. We are PARTNERS with men, not "the little women taking care of hearth and home" ie "barefoot and pregnant".

Women's Lib did NOT CHANGE America. It neither helped nor hurt America as a whole. It was a generational thing, just as generation x's desire for on-demand technology and communications. It is a part of America moving forward, that's all.

Please go back to school, and take civics and sociology and government classes. America will not be stepping backward for you, my dear. It is time for you to realize what it takes to make it in todays (and tomorrows) society, and for you to make your own dreams come true.

a lot of women were in abusive relationships that they do not have to be in now.

womens lib jumped the track when they failed to give value to raising a family - but i would take raising a family alone then with a spouse that is no good.

Thank you for this question. Absolutely. And the problem with lib/con arguments is that it ultimately amounts to nothing. I myself align much more with a conservative ideology, but I acknowledge that both parties are corrupt, both ruin the country. To align yourself with a specific party like it's really as cut and dry as Us v. Them is flawed thinking. It distracts us from real issues and what's really going on, like the slow and steady death of our Constitution and Republic. We spend all the time debating what IS, which in my mind has no real end. It goes on for forever. Did Bush lie and all that jazz for oil? It looks like that may be true, but who really knows for sure. There really is evidence for both arguments, and what we descend to is "your evidence is propaganda" and "no, it's your evidence that is propaganda" and we go around in circles. I advocate we debate where we SHOULD be going and CAN be going because it is something that can be discussed with substantiation rather than a mere factual dispute.

You're just lazy. You want someone to fit the bill while you get your nails done. Probably not that cute. No one rides for free. Women's lib has been wonderful for America. What happens when the man tires of the worthless trophy wife. Whatcha gonna do. Gotta do somethin because I have never heard of a two-time trophy wife. Get up, get out and do something.

I am at the plate for crying out loud. Hell, Randy Johnson just let loose a ninety five mile an hour fastball up and in at my chin because I was so close to the plate. After I got back up off the dirt and dusted myself off, I'm diggin back in again looking for something I can pull. Jeez. I've been doing this all my adult life lady.

Womens' liberation did not change the standard of living, or increase costs and expenses.

It just meant that more families had options other than living at the poverty level.

Cost of living has risen because of economic and political factors that have nothing to do with gender equality issues.
