I want to understand the meaning of the word better because my teacher's are always lovin the word in peoples essays. thx!!!!

"Thus" is the same as "therefore".

Examples:
1. It is late and thus we must go.
2. Thus, it was necessary for me to resign.
3. Few of the nation's largest cities are state capitals; thus neither New York nor Chicago is the seat of its state's government.

Thus means 'in this or that manner, in the way mentioned or demonstrated : to this degree or extent, accordingly, therefore.

So the word can be used to demonstrate a result. So, for example, you could say 'Beat eggs well, add salt and pepper, pour into a frying pan containing a little melted butter over a medium heat for ten minutes before turning out onto a plate. Thus we have created an omelette.
