They are quite big and end up in the swimming pool. They are brown. We call them "people bugs". (Calif)

I'm betting the potato bug as well.

It could be almost anything. A picture would help a lot.
It is possible to be a brown praying mantis, or a potato bug; those end up in my pool all the time.
