A nurse practioner really has a tight protocol and I think your $$ and time is better spent with an actual gynecologist. For virtually every appointment I had with an NP, any time I had a problem, I was referred to the gyn. It became a waste of my time and money. All of my problems were beyond her scope.

There are many reasons why you are not pregnant. After 24 months it is a good idea to get checked but that still may not tell you anything definitively.
A lot of couples forget that it could also be the man that has a problem with the sperm. Before you go through a lot of expensive and invasive testing, have your husband see a urologist or his doctor to have a sperm test done. It is non invasive, fun for the guy (and maybe you) and does not carry a great cost if insurance doesn't cover it.
If all else fails and the doctors tell you that you can't get pregnant, remember that there are a lot of children that need to be adopted and have a loving family.
Best of luck to you and your husband.

Hi! I have the same problem as you do. I've been TTC since December of 2005, and it is almost 2 years ago....I'm afraid to have an transvaginal ultrasound because I might hear something bad.I'm irregular and right now I missed 2 periods in a row. I might be pregnant I might be not. I'm still gonna have my pregnancy test done this weekend. I've always been hoping I am pregnant everytime I miss my period but I always get frustrated. I also have to find out if maybe I have PCOS because of the irregularity of my period. I wanted to try taking clomid, metformin and other stuff before I go to the ultrasound but people say it's risky. You see, I wanted to try all I've got and what's natural before asking help. I'll give it one more month and then find help for this. My husband and I are hoping that we can have our child next year. Good luck to everyone!

I agree with a few other posters that said you should skip th enurse practitioner and OB/GYN and go straight a reproductive endocrinologist.
OB/GYNs are experts in regular reproductive issues, with a small amount of knowledge about infertility. REs specialize in infertility, and will be much more knowledgeable about what may be effecting you.
I have known many women with infertility who try to go to their OB/GYNs at first, but they usually end up frustrated and wish they would have gone to an expert in the first place.
I also agree that they won't say flat out "You can't have a kid." I have been posting on an infertility borad for 8 years, and I don't think a doctor has ever said that to anyone, unless they were completely missing their reproductive organs. I have seen some pretty hopeless cases end up with a heatlhy baby due to the grace of God and medical advancements. Hopefully your problem will be easily diagnosed and simple to ameliorate. Good luck!

I would see an actual doctor if it were me, a doctor may be able to hwlp know what the problem is better than the nurse. I had a very hard time getting pregnant to. The doctor tried a few things and nothing worked, until they put me on clomid. I took clomid for 3 months, on the 3rd month I got pregnant. Dont be nervous, theres things the doctors can do to help! I was SOOO happy when I finally got pregnant. You just might need some clomid to.

I would go see the gynocologist. I think they can help you out and answer your questions better. And dont worry, There are very few people who are told without a doubt that they can never concieve. Whatever you may have, which could even be nothing, there will most likely be a treatment for it and you will be pregnant in no time. Good Luck :)

Actually, I would skip the obgyn and nurse practitioner and make an appointment with a Reproductive Endocrinologist who specializes in infertility. After two years of ttc with no luck a specialist in that area is what you need.

if you like her i would wait for her, i dislike my fertility specialist and dread going in for my appointments, however i wouldn't really want to drive an hour to all the appointments either because you really do end up going frequently
if they say you won't ever be able to have children you will be okay because then at least you will know and can carry on with adoption. however i wouldn't believe anyone that told me that, my aunt was told she would never have kids so she adopted and she ended up having a son about 10 years later naturally. i am sure you'll be fine, it may just take a little more work for you to concieve.
lots of babydust to you!!!!

Relax. You probably won't find out anything one way or the other at this appointment. They'll probably ask you a bunch of questions about your cycle and if you've been charting and history and stuff and then they may do some standard labs and then ask you to try charting your cycles if you aren't currently doing it, or refer you on to a specialist. Don't stress.....stress is the killer of conception. Be calm, be cool, you're going to be a mom when the time is right! Good luck!

My husband and I tried for just over two years. I was seeing an OB/GYN for the past 16 months and did multiple tests and such. I requested to try Clomid, which is a fertility drug, and we ended up conceiving on the first cycle! Although you may feel as if it will never happen, don't lose hope! Go see your OB/GYN as he/she will be able to get you on the right track faster! Good luck!
